LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought assistance of the attorney general on a petition moved by former president Rafiq Tarar for grant of pension and other benefits. Tarar submitted in his petition that former military ruler General (r) Pervez Musharraf had removed him from the presidency after toppling the government in 1999.  He said since the Supreme Court had declared Musharraf’s acts unconstitutional, he was entitled to pension and other benefits due to a former president. He asked the court to direct the government to pay him his pension. Justice Ijazul Ahsan admitted the petition for regular hearing and directed the attorney general to assist the court on the matter.

Honourable Rafiq Tarar who himself had been the ex judge of SC must know that SC only declared mushraff's 2007 action illegal, whereas his action of October 1999 was duly legalised by the SC, he was allowed to amend the constitution, given 3 years to rule by keeping the constituion in abeyance, even his 2002 refrendum was declared legal by the SC, hence the removal of Mr Tarar which occured in 2001 is legal as per SC verdict. Any how, the poor natiion who is already bearing the burden of pension and beneifts for so may corrupt retired president, PMs, interim PMs, govenors and CMs, will not mind if pious and gentleman Rafiq Tarar is also given pension and other benefits.
