LAHORE:

The CCPO has ordered an inquiry into allegations that Shahdara police illegally detained two men at a private residence, after television cameras ‘raided’ the property on Monday night and discovered two suspects detained there.

Shahdara Investigation Officer SI Sanaullah admitted that Shehbaz Shan alias Shani and Ashraf, who are nominated in a rape and kidnapping case, had been kept at the house for more than 24 hours, the maximum length that police can hold detainees before producing them before a magistrate. Shan and Ashraf were arrested from Kotli village and the alleged hostage was released three days ago.

Sanaullah claimed that the men had been kept there because they were expecting three other suspects in the case to turn up at the house in Haidari Kanda, Shahdara. He said that Shan was also wanted for a kidnapping case at Lorry Adda police station.

Shan told The Express Tribune that the alleged hostage had eloped with him and they had married.
