Sectarian clashes: IG instructs police to remain on high alert

Says police should maintain coordination with peace committee members and religious leaders of all sects.

Inspector General of Police Khan Baig on Monday directed the regional and divisional police officers to enhance security and patrolling at all exit and entry points of cities and to remain on high alert.


He issued the orders in view of the law and order situation in Rawalpindi.

He directed field officers to be vigilant about the law and order situation. He said the police should maintain coordination with peace committee members and religious leaders of all sects.

He said the police should closely monitor entry and exit points of the cities without bothering citizens.

The IG instructed the police to ensure security at important buildings, business centres and markets, mosques and imam bargahs in their divisions and districts.

He urged citizens to report any suspicious activity and cooperate with the police during patrolling and checking. He said interfaith harmony was essential for maintaining peace and security in the country.

He said no negligence would be tolerated.
