President’s Trophy: PQA rolls over KRL for a mere 78 on day one

Discarded pacers Rauf, Talha and Sami wreak havoc in Lahore.

KARACHI: PQA got off to a stupendous start on day one of their President’s trophy tie against KRL at the Qadaffi Stadium in Lahore.

An inspirational burst of pace bowling from discarded Test trio of Abdur Rauf, Mohammad Sami and Mohammad Talha was too hot to handle for KRL. Talha and Rauf claimed four wickets each while Sami snared two.

In reply, PQA ended the day at 155 for six with Khurram Manzoor smashing a stroke-filled 80 which included 17 fours.

In another match at Islamabad’s National Ground, reigning champions SNGPL sent PIA packing for 169 runs in their first innings, with their own start wobbly as they ended the day at 62 for three.

Meanwhile, State Bank was shot out for 217 in their first innings on the opening day of their match against ZTBL, as Mohammad Khalil claimed a five-wicket haul.

Similarly, Ehsan Adil’s six-wicket haul helped Habib Bank limit United Bank to a mere 167 runs on the opening day in Islamabad’s Marghazar Ground.

Peshawar post decent total against Abbottabad

The second day of the fourth round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy first class tournament was played out across the country yesterday.

Peshawar Region posted a decent total of 346 in their first innings against Abbottabad at Arbab Niaz Stadium, thanks to a century by Israrullah, while Sajjad Ahmed Jan (88) and Fawad Akbar (80) chipped in with important knocks. In reply, the visitors’ ended day two on 146 for four.

Meanwhile at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot, the hosts were bowled out for 247 in their first innings as Rawalpindi’s Nasir Malik took six wickets for a mere 69 runs. Batting second, Rawalpindi Region ended day two at 169 for five with Owais Zia not out at 42.

At the Diamond Club Ground, Islamabad took a healthy 128 runs lead over Lahore Shalimar on day two. The visitors were rolled over for 190 in their first innings in response to Islamabad’s first innings score of 318.

Twelve wickets fell in an action packed day of the match between Quetta and hosts Faisalabad at the Iqbal Stadium. Faisalabad took a slender eight runs lead in the first innings after bowling out the hosts for 159 runs, as the second day ended with the hosts placed at 118 for four in their second innings.
