The University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Saturday issued the first selection list of candidates admitted to MBBS in public sector medical colleges of the Punjab.
The merit rose by two percentage points to 86 per cent this year.
The merit was calculated according to the formula prescribed by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), which gives 10 per cent of matriculation marks, 40 per cent of intermediate marks and 50 per cent entrance test marks.
Only candidates securing 80 per cent or above were eligible to apply for admission on merit this year.
Applications were received from October 21 to October 26.
A total of 41,677 candidates had appeared in the entrance test.
Out of these, 8,783 eligible candidates applied for admission to 3,197 open merit seats, 61 seats for under-developed districts and 20 seats for disabled candidates in 17 public sector medical colleges and three dental colleges of the province.
The King Edward Medical University (KEMU) remained the top choice of candidates. The merit for the college closed at 90 per cent.
The merit for Allama Iqbal Medical College was 89 per cent; for Services Institute of Medical Sciences 88 per cent; for Fatima Jinnah Medical College 88 per cent; for Ameerud Din Medical College 87.9 per cent; Nishtar Medical College; Multan 87.7 per cent; Rawalpindi Medical College 87.2 per cent; Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad 87.18 per cent; Quaid-i-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur 86.82 per cent; Gujranwala Medical College 86.7 per cent; Sargodha Medical College 86.64 per cent; Sahiwal Medical College 86.38 per cent; Nawaz Sharif Medical College, Gujrat 86.37 per cent; Shaikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan 86.32 per cent; Khawaja Mohammad Safdar Medical College, Sialkot 86.27 per cent and DG Khan Medical College 86.18 per cent.
As the government notification with regards to the fee structure of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical College Lahore was issued after the due date for submission of admission form, all those high merit candidates having an aggregate percentage of 87 per cent or above marks will be given a chance to reconsider their order of preference. The admission list for the college will be displayed after November 22.
The distribution of 3,022 open merit MBBS seats is as follows: 302 seats for King Edward Medical University Lahore; 301 for Allama Iqbal Medical College; 280 for Nishtar Medical College; 206 seats for Fatima Jinnah Medical College for Women; 191 seats for Services Institute of Medical Sciences; 287for Punjab Medical College Faisalabad; 297 for Rawalpindi Medical College; 273 for Quaid-i-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur; 126 for Shaikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan, 79 for Sargodha Medical College; 90 for Nawaz Sharif Medical College Gujrat, 100 for Sahiwal Medical College; 100 for Gujranwala Medical College; 100 seats for Khwaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College Sialkot; 100 each for Ameerud Din Medical College, Lahore General Hospital Lahore, DG Khan Medical College and 90 for Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical College Lahore.
A total of 113 candidates applied for admission against 20 seats reserved for disabled students. They were examined by a medical board from November 4 to November 7. After examination, only 51 candidates were declared eligible for admission. The merit in this category is 68.66 per cent.
For admission against 61 seats reserved for students from the six under-developed districts of Muzzafargarh, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Bhakkar, Layyah and DG Khan, a total of 782 applications were received.
The merit for MBBS in this category is as follows; Muzzafargarh 86.20 per cent; Rajanpur Tribal Area 55.03 per cent; Rajanpur settled area 86.26 per cent; Lodhran 85.99 per cent; Bhakkar 85.22 per cent; Layyah 86.25 per cent; DG Khan Tribal Area 82.06 per cent and DG Khan settled area 86.14 per cent.
The merit for Cholistan is 77.88 per cent.
MBBS classes will commence on December 2. The second selection list for MBBS will be displayed on December 14.
The first selection list for BDS will be displayed on December 24.
The classes for dental college will start on January 15 next year.
