The ban on appointments and transfers in Punjab and Sindh has been rendered ineffective since the previous schedule for conducing local bodies’ elections has been cancelled.
As per the code of ethics issued by the election commission, government officials were barred from announcing development schemes or providing funds for projects in their constituencies. With the cancellation of the schedule in the two provinces, this notification previously issued by the poll body has been rescinded until a new schedule is issued.
The election commission authorities have confirmed that the notification has become ineffective. The ECP had issued a code of ethics along with the election schedule of November 27 and December 7 for Punjab and Sindh, respectively.
The election commission had barred the prime minister and the chief ministers from starting any development schemes and making appointment or transfers in government departments. The new code of ethics will be issued along with the new schedule for the local bodies elections.
