Busted: Two ‘terrorists’ arrested in DG Khan

Police recover Kalashnikovs, pistols, 800 rounds and pen pistols.

MULTAN:

Police on Wednesday arrested two people in Dera Ghazi Khan and claiming to have foiled a major attempt at sectarian violence.

Regional Police Officer Akhtar Omar Laleka told The Express Tribune that the two men belonged to Kohat and Bajaur.  He said they had both been shifted to an undisclosed location.

He said both the men had entered DG Khan disguised as missionaries. They had been staying at a mosque. He said on Wednesday, they had arrived at the mosque in a truck, which they told people, was loaded with second-hand clothes.

The RPO said some residents of the area had informed the police about the truck. He said the men were arrested on their way to Rajanpur.

He said the police team had recovered Kalashnikov rifles, pistols, 800 rounds of bullets and pen pistols from the truck. Police speculated that the men had planned to attack a mourning procession.

After the arrests, the RPO directed district police officers to review the security arrangements in the division. More police personnel were deployed at sensitive places and additional check posts were set up at entrances to the district.

The RPO told The Express Tribune that border police had been asked to improve security arrangements and check all vehicles from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The RPO, however, refused to identify the suspects.
