A consumer court on Tuesday issued a notice to a proprietor in a suit seeking Rs500,000 as damages for not delivering furniture to the petitioner in time for his daughter’s wedding.
Muhammad Majid said he had placed an order for furniture at Sadiq Furniture, Sanatnagar, a month ago. He said he paid Rs100,000 in advance for a bed, bedside tables and a dressing table.
Majid said the furniture was not delivered on time and he had had to purchase readymade furniture from the market instead.
He said he complained to Muhammad Sadiq, the proprietor, but he delayed the matter and later refused to provide the furniture. Majid asked the court to direct Sadiq to pay Rs500,000 as damages.
When contacted, Sadiq said that he had prepared the furniture on time but the petitioner did not collect it. Sadiq said he had informed the petitioner when the furniture was ready but he said he had postponed the date of his daughter’s wedding and would collect the furniture at a later date, but he never collected it.
