A seminar organised by the Social Welfare Department was held on dengue fever awareness on Wednesday.
Social Welfare and Baitul Maal Secretary Fehmida Mushtaq was the chief guest on the occasion. MPA Rukhsana Kokab was the guest of honour. Officials of dengue cells at Services Hospital and Jinnah Hospital were also present.
Mushtaq spoke on the efforts of the Social Welfare Department for curbing the dengue epidemic and the role of women in this campaign. Mushtaq also spoke on the health sector reforms being introduced by the government.
Hospital officials informed the audience about methods of preventing dengue fever and conducted the question-answer round.
Social Welfare District Officer Faiz Naeem said his department had established two camps on the Metro bus route at Data Darbar Terminal and Secretariat Terminal for the dengue awareness campaign.
‘Special attention for high-risk UCs’
Meanwhile, Commissioner Rashid Mahmood Langrial has directed health officials to ensure surveillance of high-risk union councils and imam bargahs.
Chairing a meeting here on Wednesday, he also directed health officials to put nurses, equipped with dengue treatment kits, on duty in towns.
The commissioner said health teams would remain Rs90 for preliminary diagnosis and all tests and treatment facilities would be free in all public hospitals and dispensaries.
He said the number of supervisory staff in Shalimar and other towns was sufficient, adding that special focus would be on mosquito surveillance.
