The SSP was addressing a press conference at his office on Wednesday. According to him, they had received a tip-off that many criminals were shifting to new hideouts in the wake of police operation in the katcha areas. Reacting to this, a large number of policemen raided the underlying areas of Dandhi Fakirabad within the Sangrar police limits near Sukkur.
During the exchange of fire, the police managed to recover Kumar and arrest four kidnappers - Asif Jagirani, Nadeem Jagirani, Barkat Qazi and Rafiq Abbasi. Three accomplices of the kidnappers managed, however, to escape.
The police have also recovered a Kalashnikov rifle, a repeater gun, two TT pistols and a car from their possession. The SSP has announced Rs200,000 award for the police team for recovering the abducted man.
Crackdown
Sukkur police also demolished many hideouts of criminals in the katcha areas of Bagarji. During the operation, the police arrested six criminals - Altaf Jatoi, Hakim Narejo, Dur Mohammad Kharoos, Misri Kharoos, Haroo Jatoi and Imtiaz Jatoi.
The SSP said the police have also recovered 10 stolen motorcycles, two pistols, a gun, a tractor nine buffaloes and a G-3 rifle snatched from police constable Samiullah from Bagarji. The officer further claimed that on November 4, Rohri police, after an encounter, managed to arrest four criminals - Ali Murad aka Makoro Korai, Nazir Ahmed Roonjha, Jagan Bozdar and Mureed Hussain Shaikh. The police have also confiscated a repeater gun and two TT pistols from their possession.
Muharram security
Briefing about the security plan during Muharram, the SSP said that 3,063 policemen and 2,000 Rangers personnel would be deployed throughout the district. He said that the two companies of army will be on standby for any emergency. All hotel management have been warned not to rent out rooms to anyone between Muharram 8 and Muharram 10. In addition, 25 CCTV cameras have been installed in Rohri to monitor the movement of the processions while 28 CCTV cameras have been installed in Sukkur and 10 more are to be added, he said.
According to him, 12 areas in the district have been declared most sensitive while 30 areas are sensitive. He said that section 144 has been imposed throughout the province and no one will be allowed to display firearms. Besides this, he said, nobody would be allowed to wear jackets or shawls during Muharram processions or Majalis. In all, 119 Muharram processions will be organised but permission has been granted for only 109 processions. During Muharram, he said, 888 Majalis will be held throughout the district. Sukkur President Panchayat president Mukhi Eshwar Lal Makheja and Sukkur Small Traders president Jawed Memon were also present on the occasion.
