Property dispute: Five killed in grenade attack on jirga in Lower Orakzai

A jirga with tribesmen from a village outside Kalaya was being convened to discuss a family dispute.

HANGU: Five tribesmen were killed and two others were injured in a hand grenade explosion at a jirga in Mawrah, Lower Orakzai Agency on Sunday, Express News reported.

An official of the political administration from Kalaya, headquarters of Lower Orakzai, said the incident occurred around 5:00pm.

He said a jirga with tribesmen from a village 10km west of Kalaya was being convened to discuss a family dispute between a man identified as Tehwar Hussain and his rivals.

The situation got tense at one point and Hussain threw a hand grenade towards the rival party. The hand grenade exploded, killing Hussain and two tribesmen on the spot.

Four of them were also injured, of whom two succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital and the rest were admitted in a critical condition.

The official identified the other deceased as Syed Itwar Hussain, Syed Malik Hussain and Syed Kazim Hussain, while the name of the fourth tribesman could not be ascertained.

This is good treatment to the members of the jirga who give nasty judgments..
