LAHORE:

Ombudsman Javed Mehmood has suggested that government officers set up complaint boxes at their offices so members of the public can report their grievances to them, according to a press release from the ombudsman’s office.

Speaking at an open court at Circuit House in Rajanpur on Saturday, Mehmood said that officers must promote transparency and eliminate maladministration. He said that resolving people’s problems at their doorsteps was the essence of good governance.

The ombudsman said that he would hold another open court in the district soon to review the progress on the complaints he had addressed on Saturday. He said that Rajanpur was the southern-most and most backward district in the province. He had observed that there were very few development schemes underway in the district. He urged people to report any excesses by government officials rather than endure them silently.
