Police spokesman Ameer Nasir Javaid said that a Madina Town police team was on routine patrol near Wadpa Colony on Canal Road, when it received a call about three robbers deprving some people of their valuable.

Javaid said the police team, headed by SP Nasir Sial, rushed to the spot and ordered the robbers to surrender. He said instead they shot at the police.

The robbers fled towards Chak Shareenwala , and were chased by the police team.

Javaid said the robbers took cover in a sugarcane field and shot at the police again. The police shot back.

He said one of the robbers was killed on the spot, while his two accomplices fled the scene.

Police said they found a 0.30 bore pistol on the body. They also seized a red applied-for motorcycle that the robbers had left behind.
