HYDERABAD: Even a day before the deadline for filing objections, the district administration of Hyderabad has failed to display detailed lists of the constituencies delimited for the upcoming local government elections. The lists were to be displayed from October 26.
The district’s four talukas are divided in a municipal corporation containing City and Latifabad talukas, a municipal committee for Qasimabad taluka and a district council for rural taluka. The assistant commissioners of all the talukas submitted their recommendations almost two weeks ago.
The municipal corporation will comprise the union committees with a population limit between 10,000 to 15,000 per committee. The municipal committee will have wards of 4,000 to 5,000 people as its constituent units while district council will be based on union councils of 10,000 to 15,000 people.
Up to 45 and 38 union committees for City and Latifabad talukas have been proposed by the respective assistant commissioners. The AC Qasimabad recommended around 30 wards while the rural taluka will include 13 union councils.
The deputy commissioner Nawaz Soho could not be contacted. However, the additional deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza told The Express Tribune that lists will be displayed by Thursday evening. November 1 is the last date for filing objections, he confirmed.
The delay has been condemned by many political parties. A conference of over a dozen political, religious and nationalist parties, convened by Jamaat-e-Islami on Wednesday night, alleged that pre-election rigging was being done by jerrymandering the constituencies.
