LAHORE:

A consumer court issued arrest warrants on Wednesday for the proprietor of Pak-Punjab Musical Works in a lawsuit seeking Rs31,000 damages.

Petitioner Awais Maqbool Bari told the court that he had met Muhammad Waseem, proprietor of Pak-Punjab Musical Works, and bought a semi-acoustic guitar Tagima-Dallas for Rs11,000 and a guitar bag for Rs500.

He said Waseem assured him of the guitar’s quality. He said Waseem claimed responsibility in case it developed a fault.

He said when he asked for a receipt of the sale, Waseem did not give him any, saying there was no need for it.

Bari said on June 3, he told Waseem that the guitar had developed a fault.

He said Waseem checked the guitar and replaced it with new a one. Bari said he found the same problem in the new guitar.

He said when he complained about it, Waseem refused to replace it a second time.

He asked the court to direct the respondent to refund his money and pay Rs20,000 damages for selling him a defective guitar.

At a previous hearing, the court had summoned the proprietor but no one appeared on his behalf. This time, the court issued bailable arrest warrants for him.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Waseem dispelled the impression that he had sold a defective guitar.

He said he had repaired the faulty guitar. He said when Bari returned to his shop complaining of the same fault on the repaired guitar, he had told him that it was fine.

At this, Waseem said, Bari had started threatening him with legal action.
