The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) is devising 117 new courses for professional and technical training in the country and is revising curriculum of 170 other programmes.
Of the 117 diplomas and courses being introduced, 109 have to do with professional and technical education while eight are diplomas of associate engineering.
NAVTTC is an apex body for technical and vocational training and is part of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. Being a federal agency for Technical Education and Vocational Training (TVET), NAVTTC facilitates, regulates and provides policy direction for skill development in the country.
Issues and policies of technical education were discussed at NAVTTC headquarters on Tuesday where State Minister for Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education Balighur Rehman was also briefed about the organisation’s projects and future plans.
The adviser for TVET reforms support programme in Pakistan, Jolie Riverie urged him to revise the policy in line with the government’s “Vision 2015.”
“To cater to the demand of labourers and technicians, the National Skills Information System (NSIS) is introducing a new online system,” said TVET reform programme’s national deputy coordinator Raja Saad Khan.
A NAVTTC official informed participants that to enhance quality of technical and professional education, an accreditation guide has been introduced for the first time.
