Bajaur agency: Two minors die of measles

A measles epidemic in K-P and the tribal areas earlier this year claimed over a 100 lives.

Two minors died of measles in Barang tehsil of Bajaur Agency on Tuesday.


Agency surgeon Zakir Hussain confirmed the deaths of eight-year-old Sohail and three-year-old Ayesha. He said a large number of people were affected by the disease in Sarlara, 30 kilometers away from Bajaur Agency’s headquarters Khar.

The health official said teams comprising paramedics and doctors have been formed and dispatched along with medicines to the affected areas.

“Residents were facing a lot of problems due to lack of facilities in the tehsil headquarters hospital of Memola,” he said, adding many people were compelled to shift their children to Khar and other areas of the agency.

There was a measles epidemic in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal areas earlier this year, which claimed over a 100 lives.

Epidemics happen when and where vaccination campaigns are interfered with. Another 100 people,most likely kids,died ,courtesy of Taliban.
