The party filed a request in this regard in apex court’s Karachi Registry.
MQM spokesperson said that the party doesn’t want to delay the local government elections but it will challenge the regulation that administers them.
Bill
The Sindh Assembly had approved the bill on August 19, despite MQM protesting against it.
Senior provincial minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro had presented the bill in the assembly.
The bill was prepared by the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government in Sindh in compliance with the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s orders to hold the LG election by September 15.
Former major coalition partner, MQM was adamant that the Sindh Peoples Local Government Law 2012, which was passed by both PPP and MQM, be implemented.

It was high time that mqm moved away from a national focus and set its eyes firmly towards resolving the urban issues of sindh or lose its relevance. It is also imperative that mqm does not compromise on this issue on the basis of political expediency. The rural politicians need to accept that if it wants the urban areas to accept and believe in a common Sindhi destiny they will need to shed off their myopic and biased approach to the urban areas. Else for the sake of a shoe, they stand to lose the whole horse. All eyes are therefore on mqm.
@Mehran;
The population of MQM Mandated Areas, primarily Karachi & Hyderabad alone is 25 + Million; thats more than population of KPK and roughly 3 x the population of Balochistan. Even our constitution permits to create more provinices, but what can we do, when Sindhi fuedals can't stand there powers being lost. What can MQM do, when its mandate is greater than mandate of two provinces yet its a part of an assembly ruled by fuedals whose voters belong to rural areas.
What did we Karachiites do wrong that we deserve to have these illeterate, corrupt fuedals to govern us????
Sindh Assembly has right to make laws and make amendments. Sindh LG bill was passed by majority of law makers and others should respect democratic norms. If MQM considers bill is wrong, they should win majority in Assembly in next elections and make necessary amendments. Till then, MQM should not run away from LG elections. And as expected, no rigging would be allowed this time.
Enuff with the mean tactics of sindhi waderas to rule and loot karachi by twisting the laws . We need a separate province to govern ourselves.
I definetly support MQM on this, the current LB infrastructre put into place is an handicapped structure bound to fail. Also it clearly violates quite a few contitutional clause.
Glad to see MQM taking leading role on this; MQM trully cares & represents the interest of public. They've proved it before and InshAllah they will prove it again.
Mqm should take stand against Rangers torture and abduction of its workers in Supreme Court, Rangers is answerable if they are doing wrong, I will go with Mqm on this one.
MQM must do everything and seek justice wherever and whoever is willing to listen and deliver what is ours the people's. We all, the voters and supporters of MQM demand MQM to stand up and resist all attempts by anyone to deny us our rights. True democracy is when people have a stake and empowered to participate in all matters that concern our welfare. True democracy guarantees ordinary people access to the 'powerhouses' in the country and a power sharing with those who seem bent upon monopolizing it. Good job, MQM, you must stand up and continue the sacred mission and your people stand with you and behind you. God speed!
Mqm the most liberal all inclusive progressive and forward looking party must realize the need of time and propose directly elected mayor for karachi like all mega cities are goverened all the world
This city needs an autonomous local govt system as visioned by former president pervez musharraf!
We are with you MQM don't fall to these tyrants like PTI and PPP and PML-N
