Petitioner Muhammad Javed said he had bought furniture for Rs300,000 from Ashraf Furniture in Township a few weeks ago.
He said some visitors at his house told him the furniture was of poor quality. Javed said he noticed that the polish began fading within a few days. He said he called the proprietor and complained. The proprietor told him that he would send some workers to check the furniture but, Javed said, no one visited.
He said he asked the proprietor to repair the furniture, replace it or return the amount, but he refused.
Javed asked the court to direct the proprietor to return the amount he had paid for the furniture and pay Rs200,000 in damages.
Muhammad Ashraf, the proprietor, told The Express Tribune he had not sold defective furniture. “I have been running my shop for several years and have a good reputation among my clients,” he said. The furniture might have gotten scratched since it was placed in the bedroom, he said, I asked the petitioner to send me his schedule so I could send my workers accordingly, but he never got back to me.
