LAHORE:

A Lahore High Court division bench on Friday adjourned hearing of a set of petitions against party-less local government elections.

The bench directed the government’s counsel to present his arguments on the next hearing on October 28. Earlier, the counsels of the Pakistan Peoples Party, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf  and the Lawyers Foundation concluded their arguments.

The petitioners’ said that party-less polls would weaken political parties.

They urged the court to order the government to hold polls on party basis.

The counsel said the Punjab Local Government Act 2013 violated several provisions of the Constitution and needed to be amended.

They said the local government system should not be tampered with. The court summoned the government's counsel by October 28.
