KARACHI: On the directives of the Sindh Minister for Local Government Owais Muzaffar, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has been asked to explain why illegal hydrants are still operating in the city.

The local government secretary, Ali Ahmed Lund, passed on the minister’s order to the KWSB managing director and deputy managing director for technical services. The minister observed that illegal hydrants are operating everywhere in the city in collaboration with officials of the KWSB and no serious efforts have been taken by the water board to eliminate them.

It further said that the illegal supply of drinking water created many problems for the residents of Karachi.

The KWSB officials have been asked to explain their positions within seven days to avoid any disciplinary action.

Municipal officials suspended

The local government minister also suspended four officials of the local government department in district Dadu on complaints of negligence of duty and dilapidated conditions in their respective areas. During his visit to Dadu and Khairpur Nathan Shah, the municipal committees and residents complained about the arrogant behaviour of these officials and their lack of interest in resolving civic problems.

The minister directed the secretary local government to immediately suspend four municipal and assistant municipal officers.
