PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday directed the provincial government to initiate an inquiry against all government employees engaged in private businesses of transport. A two-member bench of Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Asadullah Khan Chamkani issued the directives. The court ordered the Deputy Inspector General of Traffic to check vehicles on various routes of the province on a daily basis. The bench also ordered senior traffic officers to be deputed on all routes to check if the buses of educational institutions are maintaining international safety standards. The PHC, on May 27, had directed the provincial government to pass a legislation to ensure the safety of passengers and school children travelling in buses. The orders were issued during the hearing of a Human Rights Directorate petition.
