Jiah Khan suicide case to be re-opened

Bombay High Court orders reinvestigation of actor’s death.

Late actor Jiah Khan probably did not get as much attention when she was alive as she is after allegedly committing suicide. With ex-boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi’s release from jail, it was assumed that the case has received its final blow. But just earlier this month, Jiah’s mother Rabbiya Khan filed a petition in Bombay High Court, maintaining that her daughter was murdered. She pleaded that the Central Bureau of Investigation should conduct a deeper investigation into the case.

According to the Deccan Chronicle, Rabbiya also attached a report from a private forensic probe that hinted at manipulation of evidence. CCTV footage, for example, showed that Jiah entered her house only minutes before the recorded time of death and while she entered in her tracksuit, she was found dead in a night gown. She raised questions over the authenticity of the police investigation and stressed on the point that since Sooraj is a well-known actor’s son, it is possible that the evidence was tampered.



The petition also highlighted that apart from the ligature marks, Jiah had injuries on her face and body, indicating that she was held forcefully, reported the Indian Express. The report seems to indicate that Jiah’s untimely death could be a case of homicide. Hence, the Bombay High Court has ordered a fresh investigation into the case this month.

Meanwhile, Sooraj Pancholi, whom Jiah addressed at length in her suicide note, seems to be moving on. According to Oneindia Entertainment, Sooraj has been spending quality time with Suneil Shetty’s daughter Athiya. The two will be making their debut in Subhash Ghai’s Hero remake.
