For the people: Security plan for Muharram finalised

The district administration on Tuesday imposed Section 144 to maintain law and order during Muharram. The decision was taken at a meeting of administration and police officials. The meeting was attended by DCO Tariq Mehmood and DPO Raja Basharat Mehmood.


Under the section, writing and distribution of provocative pamphlets and posters in the district has been prohibited. Distribution and printing of material promoting sectarian hatred, especially in mosques and imam bargahs, has also been banned. Action would be taken against those carrying weapons and using vehicles with tinted windows.

The meeting was told that a comprehensive security plan had been finalised for foolproof security of mosques, imam bargahs and procession routes during the month. The DCO said that weekly meetings of the district administration, police and law enforcement agencies will be held to deal with all the security matters. The meeting approved action against vehicles having illegal green number plates or those with none or reading: applied for. Control rooms will also be set up at the offices of the DCO and the DPO.
