Roots Youth Model United Nations (RYMUN) 2013 commenced on Sunday amidst mesmerising folk gigs from around the world performed by students.
The under-secretary general of RYMUN welcomed the guests after the official inauguration, according to a press release.
The ambassador of RYMUN, Rashad Duraewoo highlighted the event’s importance, saying it was the best way for students to understand the functioning and charter of the United Nations (UN). Deputy head of Canadian High Commission, Lajos Arendas and deputy secretary of the Philippines embassy, Consul Conrado Demdem were the chief guests at the occasion. Budding singers Maria Fatima and Sheroo also performed at the event.
The event was attended by students from across Pakistan and foreign envoys. Roots International Schools CEO Walid Mushtaq said he believed in the holistic development of students with the latest academic and social skills and global exposure.
RYMUN is held each year by the school to give its students an insight into the global organisation’s role in maintaining order.
