Broken tie-rod: One killed, 17 injured in accident

The Coaster was heading to Lahore for a wedding.

A man was killed and 18 others were injured on Monday when a Lahore-bound Coaster carrying a wedding party overturned on Canal Road near Thatha Bridge.


Rescue officials said the van overturned because its tie-rod failed. They said the driver lost control of the vehicle and it hit a sidewalk after which it overturned.

Nineteen people were injured. They were taken to divisional headquarters hospital, where one of them, later indentified as Abdul Ghafoor, 52, succumbed to his injuries.

The injured were identified as Razia Bibi, 28; Parveen Khalid, 40; Mehvish Khalid, 17; Naseem Bibi; Sarmad Ilyas, 12; Faiza Azeem, 25; Abdul Wahid, 50; Naeem Rafiq, 22; Sarmad Bibi, 33; Usman, 11; Muhammad Ilyas, 35; Usman Amanat,16; Abdul Aziz, 60; Khuram Khalid, 18; Farrukh Bashir, 10; Amina Bibi, 25; and Amir Siddiq, 13.

DHQ hospital Medical Superintendent Muhammad Arif said three of the injured were in critical condition. He said six injured people had been discharged after they were given first aid.
