Karachi operation: Suspected target killers, Lyari criminals among 152 arrested

KARACHI: During the ongoing targeted operations in the city, the Rangers and police claim to have apprehended 152 suspects, including alleged target killers belonging to different political parties and Lyari gang war elements, on Sunday.

Around nine suspects were arrested during raids and snap-checks in various areas, including Quaidabad, Green Town, Nazimabad, Nishter Road, New Karachi, Orangi Town, Shah Faisal Colony, Abidabad in Baldia, Gulberg, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Manzoor Colony, Lucky Star and Matric Board Office Chowrangi. Weapons were also found in their possession.



A notorious alleged target killer affiliated with the Lyari gang war, Mansoor Baloch alias Bublee, was arrested during a raid by Rangers on Nishtar Road. According to a spokesperson for the Rangers, the accused was affiliated with the banned Peoples Amn Committee and was wanted by law-enforcement agencies in a number of crime cases, including targeted killings cases. Weapons, including .223 rifle, 7mm rifle, 9mm pistol, mixed ammunition and narcotics, were also seized from him.

In another raid, two alleged target killers affiliated with a political party were apprehended by Rangers on Abul Hassan Ispahani Road after a tip-off. According to sources, weapons were also recovered from their possession. Their identities and political affiliation were not disclosed.

On the other hand, Karachi police claimed to have apprehended 73 suspects, including 42 absconders, 11 suspects under arms ordinance, five suspects under narcotics ordinance, 10 alleged robbers and two alleged murderers. According to a spokesperson for Sindh police, 18 weapons and narcotics were also recovered during the operations.

Separately, West police claim to have apprehended 48 alleged criminals, including 36 absconders, and recovered weapons, including one repeater, six pistols, one dagger, four motorcycles and narcotics.

East police have arrested 16 suspects, including two absconders, during targeted raids and snap-checking. Nine pistols, four cell phones and two motorcycles were seized from them.

Separately, two alleged criminals wanted by Karachi police in various cases of crime and terrorism were arrested from Swat. The accused persons were identified as Nawab and Ikram. According to police officials, the suspects were involved in various crime cases in Karachi, including target killings, attacks on law-enforcement agencies and terrorism. The suspects hail from Swat and Mardan respectively.

Meanwhile, a suspected criminal, Bakhtiar, was arrested while his three companions managed to escape under the cover of fire during an encounter with the police in Sultanabad. Police officials said the accused had injured a police constable, Shafiq, in an attack, adding that a pistol was also recovered from his possession.
