The Lahore High Court on Friday gave the Toba Tek Singh district and sessions judge a week to file a report about a gang rape in Gojra and the police inquiry.
Last month, some men broke into a house, tied up a couple, robbed them and then sexually assaulted the wife. She said she had lodged a complaint with Gojra Sadar Police and had identified her attackers as Abdul Shakoor, Khalid, M Shahid and Ghulam Murtaza, but they hadn’t registered a rape case.
The police were reported to have only registered a robbery case against unidentified people. Investigation in-charge Inspector Rana Arshad had allegedly received a Rs1 million bribe for that. There were reportedly more than 36 cases registered against Arshad.
In a previous report, the TT Singh judge said that Khalid, Shahid and Murtaza had been arrested but Shakoor was still missing. He said that the victim had been medically examined and they were waiting for a formal report.
