Two of the hospitalised patients are still in critical condition.
This incident took place last night in several areas of Larkana including Waleed area and Masih area.
Some of the victims of this alcohol poisoning incident are Zahid Abbasi, Saeed Ahmed, Farooq Maseeh and Amar Lal.
Deaths due to the consumption of poisonous liquor are common in Pakistan, especially during holidays. Due to the ban on alcohol sales in the country - with minorities being an exception - a large black market controls liquor sales, with no regulation in place.
On September 1 police had arrested a man accused of selling poisonous liquor that killed 21 people in Faisalabad.
On July 24 and July 25, 21 people had died and over a hundred were hospitalised after they consumed toxic liquor in Warispura, Barkatpura and Christian Town. Batala Colony SHO Waheed Shahid had said many of those hospitalised ended up paralysed.
On August 23, a man had died and another was hospitalised after consuming toxic liquor in two incidents.
Furthermore, on August 10, ten people had died as a result of drinking poisonous liquor in Mehmoodabad, Karachi.

@Vishnu Dutta: Sadly, dude...that's not going to happen! Pak believers are not going to use alcohol for any sort of business or income thereof.
@Ashkenazi: Correct Answer: They smuggle and trade for funds in Arms, Drugs, Autos, Liquor, Kidnapping, and Big Robberies.
amazing to see that comments most pouplar on the board, are the ones which call for legalization of the practice. we have definitely put aside a very important "book" into some hidden corner, out of our minds and sight.
Lesser number of Indian muslims drink alcohol if not same number. That is despite free access to the alcohol. Ban on alcohol has not served any purpose to pakistan. They might as well make it legal and regulate it. That way they can control these kind of incidents and also generate revenue which is otherwise lost to mafia. The revenue generated can be used for better use.
just a thought.
Looks like a nice, chilled bottle of Pinot Grigio to me! How can this be lethal, ET?
This did not happen. It is a Western, Indian and Israeli conspiracy to defame Islam and the good Muslim people of Pakistan, where nobody drinks alcohol, because alcohol is frowned upon by Islam, and Pakistanis are so good and pure and...need I continue?
Muslim, christian and hindu all died because of this toxic liquor. Still people blame that pakistanis discrimnate against minorties. Shame on them. This incident proves that christians and hindus also can afford liquor and enjoy themselves. So how can Endinans say that hindus are not happy in Pakistan?
Laughing and singing they said bye bye to the world.
Legalise and regularise. More tax money and less deaths. Victory for all.
We need to legalise alcohol.
In my opinion, around 30-40% of Pakistanis drink alcohol (this is including people who drink occasionally); whether they do this openly or not is a different story altogether. I feel the government is losing out on valuable tax revenue here.
Alcohol needs to be legalised again and taxed. This will not only decrease the number of deaths due to poisonuous liquor but also perhaps mature the attitude of Pakistanis towards alcohol.
Ever wonder why TTP dont go after liquor shops?
Al Capone died in 1947. Did he?
