The Walled City of Lahore Authority on Saturday launched a tonga ride from Lawrence Garden to Nasser Bagh. The idea was to attract families that thronged Lawrence Garden during Eid holidays.
The tour will run from 9pm to 1am daily, even after Eid.
WCLA Deputy Director Tania Qureshi said, “We launched the tonga ride just before the Eid festivities kicked in. We want to raise awareness about traditional modes of transportation among the young generation.”
She said they had planned to provide families a source of entertainment during Eid holidays. “We hope many people come and enjoy the tonga ride tour,” she said.
WCLA Marketing Tourism and Culture Director Asif Zaheer said, “We hope that this will help promote the rich culture of Lahore.”
WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari said, “We are trying to revive the rich culture and traditions of Lahore.
Sadia Younis, a student at Beaconhouse National University, said that the WCLA had taken a great initiative by introducing tongas as a mode of transportation to the youth. “I really enjoyed the tonga ride...it was a lifetime experience,” she said.
Sabrina Ali, a student from LGS, said, “I really enjoyed the ride, I will come back again with my cousins on Eid.”
