Singer-turned-actor Ali Zafar narrowly escaped damaging his left eye as he received cuts on his left cheek while shooting an action sequence in Bangkok.

According to his publicist, the 33-year-old was performing a stunt for a TVC of a multinational brand when he cut his face and was rushed to the hospital. Luckily, there was no serious or permanent damage and the actor returned on set after doctors stitched up his cut.

Ali’s double was supposed to perform the sequence, but didn’t quite resemble the current long-hair and French beard Ali is sporting. For this reason, Ali decided to do his own stunt, during which he injured his face.

The actor has a lot on his plate at the moment and luck seems to be shining on him, with many projects being offered to him. He is currently wrapping up shooting for Tere Bin Laden 2, sequel to 2010 Bollywood satire film Tere Bin Laden.

By this month’s end, Ali will resume shooting for Kill Dill, a romantic-action Hindi film, alongside actors Parineeti Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Govinda. Ali has wrapped up romantic film Aman Ki Asha, which is stated to release by the start of 2014. The movie features Ali and actor Yami Gautam in lead roles.

Earlier in September, The Asian Age reported that while shooting the opening scenes of Kill Dill, Ali was taken by surprise by one of his fans on the set. According to a source, the actor met a fan who had changed her surname to Zafar, as a gesture of love for Ali. The fan also handed him a bagful of love letters that she had written for him.

“There was this girl who would wait for me for four days in my hotel lobby. One day, she managed to get hold of me as I was heading to the gym. She was excited, but too nervous to talk [to me],” Ali said. She handed me a bag with a few long love letters in them. In this age of social media, there’s nothing like an old-school, handwritten love letter!”

Ali was flattered by this gesture and added, “She said it [changing her last name] was a gesture of love and I thought it was very sweet.”
