ISLAMABAD:

Before taking existing corruption cases forward and continuing its fight against graft, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)’s newly appointed head Qamar Zaman Chaudhry says he wants to put his own house in order.

“The nation is in a state of war, not only against terrorism, but also against the scourge of corruption. And we cannot win this war unless we put the NAB in order,” Chaudhry told his staff on Saturday.

Chairing a meeting of operations and other departments, he said an extra effort must be put in to ensure transparency and an evenhanded approach.

The officers of the NAB’s operations division briefed the chairman about all ongoing cases from the stage of complaint verification to reference filing.  Chaudhry directed operations division to speed up their work. He said quality human resource was vital for any organisation and directed the human resource division to focus on merit based recruitment and promotion process to equip the bureau with quality human resource.

Chaudhry said the work on a comprehensive data base of all the NAB employees should be completed by the end of October.

The corruption watchdog had been literally idle for over four months after the Supreme Court removed its chairman Admiral (retd) Faish Bokhari due to his irregular appointment.
