LAHORE:

An amendment was introduced in the Lahore Development Authority Act 1975 on Thursday. Under the amended law, a commission will be constituted to settle bona fide purchasers’ disputes with illegal schemes and illegal construction. The commission will also take up complaints of people who have been sold land using fake documentation.

As many as 50 LDA officials accused of corruption, forgery and approving illegal transfers and allocations, have been terminated in 18 months, a spokesman said. He said the authority has taken strict measures against land grabbers and restricted access to LDA offices. The authority has also stopped ‘urgent’ transfers of plots in some schemes, over allegations of fraud. The LDA has also begun scanning records to uncover fake documents.

A central record room and a Directorate of Record Management have been constituted to safeguard property records.
