KARACHI:

The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) claimed to have busted a gang involved in a number of kidnapping cases on Friday.

The alleged kidnappers were identified as Abdul Razzak, Ghulam Mustafa, Ghulam Sarwar, Zahid, Nasir and Yaqoob. Their arrests were made during an encounter in the slums of al Muhammad Goth near Lyari Expressway.

Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference held at the AVCC office on Friday evening when the cell's chief, SSP Azfar Mahesar, said the kidnappers were wanted in several cases.

"Initially, they revealed to have been involved in at least 15 kidnappings," he said. "They used to kidnap people, especially businessmen, from Karachi and later shifted them to rural areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

"Then, they would make ransom calls to the families and warn them of dire consequences if they alerted the police."
