Ships trade: Pakistan and Sri Lanka strike accord

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Micheal has said that Sri Lankan government has promised that all regional countries, involved in ships trade with Sri Lanka, would use Pakistani ships, which will help boost the revenue and growth of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation. The minister said the government is taking steps to facilitate the shipping, logistics and supply chain management. He said that four oil tankers will be procured by next month, and that the ministry was committed to increasing fleet of ships up to 15 in this financial year. He added that Pakistan’s fish products are of high quality but unfortunately access to European markets has been lost. However, the government will soon sign Memorandums of Understanding with European countries to allow Pakistan’s fish products access to European markets which will generate revenues worth millions of dollars.
