RAWALPINDI:

A 43-year-old mason was electrocuted in commercial market, in the limits of the New Town Police Station on Wednesday.

The body of the deceased, identified as Shaheen Iqbal hailing from Attock, was shifted to a local hospital by Rescue 1122 officials.

According to the police, Iqbal was working in an office located at grace plaza where electricity wires were mixed up.

The mason came into contact with a live wire and received severe shocks and died on the spot.

Rescue 1122 officials were called who freed his body from the web of wires and transferred it to District Headquarters Hospital
in Raja Bazaar, the police said, adding that the doctors handed over the body to the victim’s heirs after conducting a medical examination.

Hazardous wiring is rampant in Rawalpindi’s commercial areas where an entire plaza was gutted several years ago.
