Most of the requests, however are from Russians, Syrians and Kosovars, contributing to a 50 per cent year-on-year rise of the total asylum requests made to EU.
The Eurostat statistics agency reported 16,845 requests for asylum from Russians in the second quarter, with a rejection rate of 80 per cent.
On the other hand, EU nations accepted 90 per cent of requests made by Syrian refugees and 60 per cent of applications by Somalis, Afghans and Iranians.
In all, 8,310 Syrians applied for asylum, just a little more than from Kosovo with 8,140, followed by 6,000 Pakistanis and 4,285 Somalis.
Germany received the largest number of requests at 26,400, followed by France with 16,400, and Hungary and Britain at around 9,000 each. Italy recorded almost 6,000 applications.
On June 31, Germany had stacked up a backlog of 95,000 asylum requests for processing, followed by Greece with 50,000 and France 30,000.
France and Belgium rejected 81 per cent of applications in the second quarter and Germany 67 per cent while Italy and Sweden were among the most hospitable nations, agreeing to around half of the requests made.
Hungary faced a 25-fold increase in requests to 9,350, Bulgaria a four-fold increase to 980 and Poland a three-fold increase to 7,445.
In 2012, there were more than 330,000 asylum requests in the EU, 70 per cent of them in Germany, France, Sweden, Britain and Belgium.
EU asylum policies are under the spotlight after a shipwreck off the Italian island of Lampedusa last week in which more than 300 African asylum-seekers are feared dead.
The 155 survivors of the tragedy are formally considered criminal suspects under an Italian law aimed at cracking down on irregular migrants.
The EU's executive called Tuesday for member states to provide more resources to launch Mediterranean-wide search and rescue patrols to prevent future refugee tragedies.

Its due to the mismanagement in the government policies in failing to provide the basic needs and requirements ,people in this part of the world are faced with worsened conditions they do not enjoy a normal life with fear not to get in hands of victimization of so much of a massacre which has ruined the happiest side of their living

That may or may not be true. However, the indians don't terrorize, criticize and burn flags of 'secular' western nation/USA then dying to get to benefit from their secularism and freedom. Pakistanis, keep shouting from their rooftops about how great 'all-weather' friend china is. How usa and europe is owned by china...etc. Yet, no pakistani applies for asylum to the pakistan's bestest friend, the world's greatest economical and soon to the world's bestes super-duper power china!! Not only that, the pakistanis get their undies in twist when muslims are treated badly in india, europe,asia or US. I am surprised that ET did not put up the number of asylum seeking Indians and I am also surprised the pakistani trolls did not quote that figure either and assign the lack of toilets in India for that.

@Iqbal: Sorry but I differ with you on the subject of brain drain; if you all had brains to drain, you wouldn't be in the mess you are in now. Yours is a self inflicted injury : spending on arms and army and weapons (which destroyed your economy) instead of spending that money on education, health and infrastructure. @Iqbal: What an absurd comparison? Go back and sleep in your cave. IITians are not refugees. Even before they graduate, they get job offers from multinational companies from all over the world. Secondly, many of them go to the US for higher studies. They are not beggars like the refugees from Pakistan. Besides, how good is the degree from a Pakistan institution? I have come across MBAs from Pakistan who are very poor at comprehension during interviews. They are not proficient in English and lack in-depth knowledge of the subject they have majored in. The ridiculous excuse I have received is "Sir, I am not very good in English because we mostly speak Urdu". Why only Silicon Valley, where more than 30 per cent of the professionals are from India? Go to MIT, NASA, Citibank, Goldman Sachs, Harvard, Colombia University and you will find every second professional an Indian. BTW, the prime minister of India was a professor at London School of Economics, Finance Minister Chidambaram is a Harvard graduate... even in a small state like Goa, the chief minister of that state Manohar Parrikar is an IITian.

EU should reject Pakistan asylum request and straightway send back them to Pakistan. Also EU government should keep watch on the pakistani (diaspora) in EU.

Let's see how much Pakistan has deteriorated in the last 10 years. There is no law and order. Terrorists are bombing mosques and churches. Karachi is crime hub. Corruption is rampant and inflation is through the roof. No jobs no business prospects no respect for fellow Muslims or any human being in fact. Big companies which were the pride of the nation are bankrupt and no body cares. Everyone is treated like an animal. Killing people is considered halal and Taliban are supported for their acts of torture and violence. Does this look like an Islamic state. Even expat Pakistanis are scared to come to Pakistan for fear of their life. According to BBC 47% of forced marriage cases filed in uk are by Pakistanis. Why would one stay in a country which has turned from a respected and prosperous nation to a barbaric land rife with illiteracy, misguided mullahs and fear of death at every corner.

I commented elsewhere recently on the Christian Cooks. It looks like that christians, ahmedis and shias are literally cooked in Pakistan. These 6000 asylum seekers from Pakistan and that too in just the last three months alone would be christians, ahmedis and shias only.
Anyhow, I am thankful to all those who responded and confirmed my points by showering personal abuses. I consider these personal abuses or counter accusations without a point or pointing out a fact to prove me wrong is itself a clear confirmation of the issues I have raised. So would those who are affected, like christians, ahmedis and shias who have read the comments and replies.
OK now let us talk of the lack of toilets in India.
