Pakistan has barred UN agencies from carrying out relief activities in Awaran. The authorities did not permit UN relief workers, who arrived in Karachi from Quetta on Tuesday, from undertaking a road trip to the district.
A World Health Organisation (WHO) coordinator Dr Fawad Khan told BBC Urdu that apart from WHO, aid workers from Unicef, World Food Programme and other international agencies had reached Karachi from Quetta and were supposed to reach Awaran by road on Monday. However, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) refused to grant them permission, because of which the mission had to be delayed.
On the other hand, Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, while talking to BBC Urdu has said that his government had urged the Centre to permit volunteers from international organisations to work for rehabilitation of earthquake survivors.
Khan pointed out that France-based NGO Doctors Without Borders had also been refused permission from the government for visiting earthquake affected areas.

UN relief workers bring in more UN organizations that have been repressing Baluchistan's Pashtuns. The U.N. support the USA military bombings in Baluchistan's original boarders being from Iran, Afghanistan and into India -Old Land of Cush. The U.N.'s UNESCO train the NGOs that are supported and governed by the World Bank's UNDP's World Organizations. Pakistan's Shi'a government was aligned with the U.N.'s authorities when Baluchistan was taken in Wars with the help of the Shi'a. It was shrunk down to within India and then taken from India and put as Pakistan after WWII! Continue to support the Pashtuns and Sunni, from the ancient Mede Empire and Land of Cush!
@M. Emad: @unbelievable:
Only in your wet dreams. Most Baloch actually want security, food, shelter and education like any other Pakistanis. They are being made to choose between the militants and Pakistan and would happily choose Pakistan if we stop ignoring them. . As to barring of Aid workers, they will only cause more woes rather than providing any tangible relief. In addition, relief workers are the perfect garb for foreign agents to fly in. It's a good decision by the local administration.
And you wonder why the people of Balochistan want to separate themselves from Pakistan? You either can't or won't provide adequate aid to the earthquake victims and prevent others from helping - time for the UN to step in?
Balochistan now become a disputed territory. Balochistan Administration should be taken by UN.
ahh, do not forget the role of Save the Children in OBL' case. why donot these NGOs use their local partners or hand-over the stuff to NDMA/PDMA or local NGOs. But this is time to bridge gap with Baloch tribemens who were never given attention by their MPA/MNA/Senators and tribal chiefs
thank the cia and save the children
Till what time Govt will try to hidde the reality?
As the militants had been killing relief workers, the presence of international aid workers will add to the woes of security. One bad incident will add more problems than relief. Seeing the number of people affected, sufficient aid workers are available in the area that can look after the people.
Why on earth??!
