Technology and education: ‘More focus needed on space sciences’

Space Week concludes at University of Agriculture.

SUPARCO Manager Amir Bhatti said the Space Week had been organised at several universities across the country to raise awareness about space sciences.

FAISALABAD: “Technological advancement across the world has created a global village,” said Khalilur Rehman, principal of Community College of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF).

He was speaking at the closing ceremony of Space Week organised by the university in collaboration with the SUPARCO on Sunday.

The theme of the week was Exploring Mars and Discovering Earth.

Rehman said, “Space technology has helped pave way for new inventions. The government should prioritise space technology research and departments set up universities to introduce the subject to students.” UAF Water Management Research Centre Director Allah Bukhsh said it was important to preserve the country’s natural resources for future generations.

He said the university, in collaboration with the USAID, was planning to set up a remote sensing centre at the campus.

UAF Students Affairs Director Muhammad Younas said, “Such events help students learn about space sciences. The subject has attracted students’ interest all over the world.”

Competitions in connection with the event among schools of the area were also organised.

In the Urdu debate contest, Laboratory Girls School bagged the first position; students of Government Crescent Model School and Laboratory High School for Boys stood second and third respectively.

In the English debate contest, students from Laboratory Girls High School stood first; students from Educators School stood second and Laboratory Boys School stood third.
