PU to constitute academic experts’ committee

VC says university administration has hired services of highly-educated and experienced agrarian experts for teaching.

LAHORE: Prof Mujahid Kamran, the Punjab University (PU) vice chancellor (VC), on Monday has decided to constitute a committee for the resolution of the problems faced by the students of Institute of Plant Pathology (IPP).

The VC met with a four-member delegation of the IPP students. The committee would comprise senior varsity faculty members and the representatives of the IPP students.

The VC said that the university administration had hired services of highly-educated and experienced agrarian experts for teaching syllabi recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

He said the administration is undertaking concrete measures to expeditiously address students’ concerns including equivalence of their degrees with BSc/MSc in agriculture, he said.

In order to make up the academic deficiency of students who have already graduated from the Institute, free of charge deficiency courses were being offered.

Dr Kamran said that the HEC National Accreditation Council for Agriculture Education expert team had recommended the inclusion of the Institute in X category. Formal intimation to this effect was expected soon, he added.

“I’ve also spoken to the Faisalabad Agriculture University VC, who has promised to extend his cooperation for the resolution of the problems,” he said. “Career prospects of the PU alumini and a speedy redressal of their grievances have always been our top priorities,” he added.

Prof Jamil Anwar Chaudhry, the pro vice chancellor, Life Sciences dean Prof Shahida Husnain, student affairs advisor Iftikhar Ahmad Chaudhry, controller examinations Dr Zahid Karim Khan, resident officers I and II Prof Javed Sami and Malik Muhammad Zaheer and advisor Col Ikramullah Khan also attended the meeting.
