The government has issued instructions to the police and the civil administration for security of places of worship, particularly churches, to prevent terrorist attacks, The Express Tribune has learnt.
The instructions have been sent to the inspector general’s office, regional police officers, divisional commissioners, district coordination officers and district police officers.
They have been directed to ensure installation of CCTV cameras and audio/video coverage of sermons in consultation with church managements. Security officials have been instructed to search the people entering churches at least 30 feet away from the gathering, move abandoned vehicles, and coordinate with the management of worship places. Installation of walk-through gates and use of metal detectors has been made mandatory. Use of sniffer dogs has been recommended at ‘sensitive locations.’

The Home Department has issued similar instructions for Eidul Fitr.
