PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) vice president and provincial Finance Minister Sirajul Haq said his party will launch a three-day nationwide protest against the hike in power tariff and petroleum products from Friday.

At a news conference, the minister said about 5,000 demonstrations will be held during the three days. He lashed out at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and said JI will not allow the federal government to take dictations from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. “The first 100 days of PML-N led government have proved to be a heavy burden on the general public and it has failed to provide any relief to them.”

He said the unjustified hike in petrol prices and the one percent increase in general sales tax (GST) has not only affected purchasing, but also negatively affected the manufacturing sector. The minister was flanked by other JI leaders, including provincial general secretary Shabbir Ahmed Khan.
