KARACHI:

All authorities that have occupied government land must evacuate it immediately, the Sindh chief secretary said on Monday.

Chairing a meeting to review the implementation of Supreme Court orders, Ejaz Chaudhry stressed that all cases must be processed and disposed of quickly.

At the meeting, Board of Revenue land utilisation member-cum-secretary Zulfiqar Ali Shah gave a presentation elaborating the step-wise occupation of land that was done by the Karachi Port Trust, Defence Housing Authority, Karachi Nuclear Power Plant, Malir Development Authority and others. The presentation also mentions the status of land territories that come under the above institutions between 2000 and 2005 and 2012.

Chaudhry said that he will not allow anyone to be negligent of their duties and delay this work. He asked the revenue board officers to issue notices to those who have occupied government land and ask them to evacuate it.

He also sought a comprehensive report on institutional and illegal occupation of land, encroached by government, semi-government and private parties and individuals, within 24 hours. He suggested monitoring the services of mukhtiarkars who play a role in encroachment.
