KARACHI:

The police arrested two of the four men allegedly involved in the kidnapping and gang-rape of a 15-year-old girl, S*.

On Saturday afternoon, the accused, identified as Shani and Waqar, stood nervously at the Mehmoodabad police station with their heads lowered.

They, however, denied that they had raped the girl. Investigation officer Ali Raza, who questioned them, said that two of the suspects’ friends were on the run and would be caught soon. An FIR against rape and kidnapping of the girl has been registered.

Meanwhile the rape survivor demanded that the culprits be given death sentence. “I am not scared and frightened. I am ready to fight and go to court for justice.”

S had gone out to buy vegetables in Kashmir colony on the evening of September 17 when her former neighbour, Shani, allegedly forced her to go with him.

“He told me that if I didn’t go with him, he would harm my brother,” she said, adding that he took her to a friend’s house before taking her to an under-construction house where he and his three friends allegedly raped her and kept her for a day. “I don’t remember anything after the assault as I was too terrified.”

On September 19, the girl was dropped at the Abdullah Shah Ghazi mazar by the accused and her father was notified through an unidentified caller. A case was registered on September 22.

The father of the girl demanded police protection and said that they were being threatened. “My children are not going to school because they fear that someone would harm them if they stepped out of their homes.”
