ABBOTABAD:

An election tribunal on Friday disqualified Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provincial minister Yousuf Ayub Khan and ordered by-election on his seat.

Yousuf Ayub Khan, the nephew of former foreign minister Gohar Ayub Khan, had won the elections on Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket from his native constituency of PK-50 Haripur-II, defeating former provincial minister and PML-N’s Qazi Muhammad Asad Khan.

He was given the portfolio of Minister for Communications and Works in the K-P cabinet.

However his rival candidate Qazi Asad filed a petition with the election commission seeking Khan’s disqualification.

Asad contended that Khan showed his qualification as BA in papers filed for the 2002 general elections and 2005 local government elections, but for the 2013 general elections, Yousuf Ayub Khan showed his qualification as intermediate.

Asad told the tribunal that the Punjab University has denied issuing degree to Khan.

The Election Tribunal headed by Ziauddin Khatak declared Khan disqualified for violating the Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

The judge also ordered holding of by-election on PK-50 Haripur-II.

Meanwhile, Khan told reporters that he would file appeal against the tribunal’s judgement within the stipulated time of 30 days.
