ISLAMABAD: ‘National Zero Hunger Program’ during the fiscal year 2013-14 aims to address nutritional concerns of the economically vulnerable. According to annual plan 2013-14, the project will be launched with collaboration of public sector and United Nations agencies. Household food insecurity and chronic malnutrition can only be reduced by improving public distribution system and income support transfer schemes for the vulnerable, the document added. The availability of major food items will be sustained as food security measure and is estimated to remain around last year’s 2,450 and 72 grams protein per capita per day. The plan further said Universal Salt Iodisation (USI) will be expanded further in eight salt producing districts of Sindh, taking the total number of districts with USI to 110 and covering 100 percent salt production in the country.
