In a bid to promote healthy activities and encourage physical exercise among the public, a two-day camp was set up at Fatima Jinnah Park last weekend. The campaign, titled “Step-up Pakistan”, was arranged by Roche Pakistan Diabetes Care and is the brainchild of renowned cricketer Wasim Akram.

The objective of the initiative was to encourage people to be active in exercise, prioritise their health and control diabetes by getting their sugar-level checked daily by Accu-Check Performa.

A 60-metre track and a diabetic camp were set up at the event in which around 2,000 people participated. Residents of the capital, especially children, wholeheartedly took part in the various exercises and sang enthusiastically to the beats of ‘Jazba e Junoon’ and ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Member National Assembly from Rawalpindi Malik Abrar attended the closing ceremony and stressed the importance of maintaining healthy blood sugar levels and following a physically active lifestyle in order to keep diabetes in check.

The event promoted the notion that diabetes is not the end of the world for the person who contracts the disease. Instead a diabetic person can lead a fulfilling life if a healthy diet is followed and proper exercise carried out.
