The NDMA chairman was in the area to monitor the rescue work underway in the devastated region. Major General Aleem remained unhurt in the attack.
"Two rockets were fired on the helicopter and the target was missed," a military official in the provincial capital Quetta told AFP.
The September 24 earthquake has so far claimed around 350 lives in Balochistan, with Mashkey being one of the worst hit areas.
A senior FC officer had said that most of the stricken places in Awaran are highly risky areas for relief workers and provincial functionaries as it is a hub of Baloch nationalist militants.
Mashkey – a sub-district of Awaran - has been under the militant command of nationalist guerrilla commander, Dr Allah Nazar who has been confronting the FC and Pakistan Army for a long time.

Should we be really surprised at this news? I guess not. Have we not seen the terrorists behave the same way during similar tragedies in 2005 Earthquake and 2010 Floods where millions of Pakistanis were affected? Terrorists will keep on their agenda to disrupt the relief work, but in the face of these multiple challenges we need to stand strong and united and do our work to bring relief to the people affected by this natural disaster. We stand by the people of Pakistan in these times of challenges and hope and pray that the people who are hurt by the earthquake are healed and their lives return to normalcy soon.

@M. Emad: You may not know that the majority of people in Baluchistan, my relatives included are staunchly pro Pakistani. In a time of a natural disaster, only a real coward would attack a helicopter flying in to help homeless people. People have appreciated the assistance and order of the Pakistani military in Baluchistan's time of need just like Kashmiris and Sindis welcomed their selfless work in previous natural disasters. All I can see is that anti state criminals have lost any decency when they choose to attack helpers and helicopters coming to assist common Baluchis. I hope that this news item gets more attention in Baluchistan so that even more people understand the game that anti state agents are playing. This will only strengthen the image of Pakistani military among the minority of misguided activists and foreign paid agents.
Tribune does not post any comment which may by any chance annoys the big ones outside Pakistan , inland non state actors & specially morning time moderator
In 1971 in East Pakistan (Bangladesh), Pakistan Airforce helicoptors and bombers were constantly aimed by Mukti Bakini (with whatever weapons they had). In many cases common people shot at Pakistani helicoptors/ fighters with their bird-shooting rifles. And tribal people shot their arrows! Such was the hatred !
East Pakistan is repeating in Balochistan.
TRIBUNE STOPS ALMOST ALL MY COMMENTS
Everyone is misunderstanding these militants. All this means is that they have decided it is time to negotiate. They have learned that this is how you get to the negotiating table from Imran Khan since he wants to negotiate with the Taliban and they murder innocents daily. Any idiot knows this is good news. IK will bring peace to FATA soon by allowing Baloch to secede and Shia law and independence in FATA
'a military official in the provincial capital Quetta told AFP" HA! how authentic the report is?
Now lets do negotiations with BLA and Dr All Nazar .......
than release all there terrorists from jail ............
than let them go abroad ..............
than let them come back .............
than let them fire more rocekts and IF any one try to stop them than put that person in jail ................ right ............
@Z: @Bhai Log: Both are late informed. Country is at stake since long. Once a Gora commented Pakisan is very strong. How some one asked. He replied 18 millions tryin tear it apart but still exists on the map of the globe.
Oh now this is to dangerous, if they are not allowing NDMA to rescue them they are definitely full of hatred and rage.
@Ahmed: ambiguous comment "this act has been done" by whome??
BLA should help the people themselves if they are not letting others do it. They have ampling funding and support.
The state is already not allowing the international NGOs to help the victims, this act has been done to make cause of security risk.
@Z: Whole Pakistan is at stake.
Despicable act.
@Ozair: So now our army needs permission of BLA to conduct rescue operations.
Another area where state's writ is at stake
Shame on BLA for not allowing Pak Army to provide relief to the Baloch people
