ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed Nasir Khan Durrani Inspector General Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, a day after twin suicide blasts at the All Saints church in Peshawar claimed over 80 lives.

“We issued the notification for appointment of new IGP K-P on Monday,” confirmed Secretary Establishment Division Shahid Rashid.

According to the notification, senior police officer Durrani has replaced Ehsan Ghani who was appointed by the interim government before the general elections 2013. Durrani was then working as Additional Inspector General Police in the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan recommended the name of Durrani after K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak sought his services.

Subsequently, on the Interior Ministry's request, the Establishment Division secretary moved a summary to Prime Minister by forwarding three names for the IG Police post in K-P.

The Prime Minister's Office stated that three nominees for the post of IG Police in K-P were sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif earlier this month.

They included Durrani, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Nasimul Zaman and Additional IG Khalid Masood.

Meanwhile, Ghani has been asked to report to the Establishment Division this week.

I do not know the former or the current IGP. Just want to make a point that by replacing people you are not improving processes in place

Thi report gives a false impression i.e. "The federal government has appointed Nasir Khan Durrani Inspector General Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa". Federal cannot appoint in provinces unless there is a govrnor rule in a province. The government of KP had earlier requested the federal government for the appointment/release of Nasir Khan, as Ghani had been posted by the caretaker government. Imran has been saying for a while that they have asked federal govt for few officers and Durani is one of those.
