Fast-rising and talented Farhan Zaman clinched the 7th DG Rangers (Sindh) Open Squash Championship by defeating Tayyab Aslam 3-2 in the final, played at the Jahangir Khan Squash Complex in North Nazimabad.
Although Tayyab won the first game, Zaman hit back to go 2-1 up. Tayyab then won the fourth game to take the match into the decider which was comfortably won by Zaman as he triumphed with scores of 7-11, 11-7, 11-6, 8-11 and 11-7 in just over an hour.
Delighted with the victory, Zaman stated that the hard work he has been putting in his game paid off in the final yesterday.
“I’ve been working hard on my game which has paid off in the form of this title,” Zaman told The Express Tribune.
“Not many people were backing me to win against the top players, so it’s really motivating for me to be crowned champion. I’ll take this win as an inspiration and will try to win more titles in near future because that is how I’ll be able to make myself as a force to be reckoned with.”
Meanwhile, third-seed Muqaddas Ashraf defeated top seed Samar Anjum 3-2 in the women’s event after a closely contested match with 12-10, 10-12, 11-9, 7-11, 12-10 in favour of Muqaddas.
